BlackMarket is a tiny shopping list application that I primarily wrote for myself, because I didn’t like the approach of similar applications of packing such a simple application with lots of features that no one ever uses.

There are no fancy graphics, only standard GUI elements (so it should integrate well with BlackBerry themes), no complicated procedures just for adding items and no support for item prices or calculation of shopping list totals (honestly, if you would care about the price of a bottle of milk you would use pen and paper for shopping instead of a BlackBerry).

So what does it do? It allows you to maintain multiple shopping lists (e.g. one for each store you’re visiting frequently). Each list may contain an unlimited amount of items. Once added items are stored in a searchable item repository, so you can easily search and re-use items and don’t need to type anything twice. Items in the repository list are sorted by usage, so items you often add to shopping lists are on top. To add an item to the shopping list, simply click on it in the repository view. Clicking an item repeatedly increases the quantity of the item in the shopping list.

In the shopping list view, you can choose to add new items from the repository, change item quantities or delete items from the list (using the BlackBerry menu key). A click on an item toggles its checkbox. Checked items are moved to the bottom of the list, so what you still need to buy is always on top. There are also menu items for quickly clearing the list (remove all items) and for resetting it (uncheck all items). In the shopping list overview you can create, delete and rename lists. Lists can be opened by simply clicking their names in the list overview.
